Johnson leads Belmont over Trevecca Nazarene 86-61

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Kerron Johnson scored 16 points to lead Belmont over Trevecca Nazarene, an NAIA school, 86-61 on Monday night.

The Bruins trailed 15-8 seven minutes into the game on a three-point play by Trevecca Nazarene’s Marquise Rudolph.

Johnson then led the Bruins to a 12-0 run, capped by Scott Saunders’ three-point play for a 20-15 lead.

Belmont (3-2) led 40-30 at halftime, and held the Trojans scoreless in the first seven minutes of the second half. Blake Jenkins scored on a tip-in for a 49-30 Bruins’ led with 13:20 remaining.

Mick Hedgepeth added 15 points and Ian Clark 11 for Belmont, which had 11 of its 15 players score.

Belmont shot 56.9 percent from the field (33 of 58) in its third straight win.

The Bruins forced 20 turnovers and held the Trojans to 38.3 percent shooting (23 of 60). Michael France paced Trevecca Nazarene with 19 points.
