RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers seized 128 pounds of marijuana in two traffic stops in the western part of the state over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The Rapid City Journal reports (http://bit.ly/scK7Ht) that a trooper stopped a North Carolina man on Interstate 90 on Thanksgiving, and authorities found 70 pounds of marijuana after a drug dog indicated there were drugs in the vehicle. Patrol Capt. Kevin Karley says the suspect fled into a field but was detained by troopers after a brief struggle.

The patrol says a trooper found 58 pounds of marijuana on Sunday when he stopped a vehicle with Washington state license plates.

The two people in that vehicle and the North Carolina man are being held in the Pennington County jail on various charges.
