Arkansas State turns back Southeast Missouri 79-63

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Edward Townsel scored 20 points Tuesday night to lead Arkansas State to a 79-63 victory over Southeast Missouri.

Townsel also had game highs with four 3-pointers and four steals for the Red Wolves (2-4), who shot 55.1 percent (27 of 49) and held a 35-26 rebounding advantage.

Marcus Hooten added 16 points, Malcoln Kirkland 14, Brandon Peterson 13 and Trey Finn 10.

Lucas Nutt led the Bears (3-4) with 13 points. Leon Powell and Nick Niemczyk scored 12 apiece, and Tyler Stone contributed 11.

The Red Wolves fell behind 7-2 but responded with a 22-10 run that ended on Townsel’s 3-pointer for a 24-17 lead with 9:08 left in the first half. Arkansas State pushed the gap to 44-29 at intermission and led by 21 three times in the second half.

Southeast Missouri’s two-game winning streak ended.
