DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — Hundreds of mourners are gathering at a Georgia church for the funeral of a Florida A&M University band member who authorities say died after being hazed.

The pews of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur just outside of Atlanta were packed Wednesday with friends and family of Robert Champion.

The 26-year-old junior was found dead Nov. 19 on a bus parked outside an Orlando, Fla., hotel after the school’s football team lost to a rival.

Police say Champion, a drum major, had been vomiting and complained he couldn’t breathe shortly before he collapsed. Authorities say hazing played a role in his death but have not released any more details.
