Letter: Peaceful rallies making a difference

The Columbian

I have joined the Occupy Vancouver rallies because I love America. By standing together for fairness and against the corruption that has crept into our system, we can achieve much. It is time to reset our priorities and value people over profits.

Because television, radio and print advertising are so expensive and because the Supreme Court has ruled that corporations are people and money is speech, our representatives must accept campaign funds from corporations and then they are under pressure from those corporations to protect their interests and do not look out for our best interests.

Here in Vancouver, we saw a city council position with huge money invested on both sides and neither gave very complete information. Is this the future of elections? Costco bought one initiative this year; who is next?

Occupy Vancouver does not camp out and we have taken a pledge to be peaceful and respectful. We may seem boring, but we have collected food for the Clark County food bank, we have donated clothes for the homeless and we have demonstrated for several causes. Our goal is to let people once again have a government that represents us.

We aim to have a rally every Saturday in Esther Short Park at noon. Everyone is invited.
