Elizabeth City State upsets Norfolk State 69-57

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Marquie Cooke had 18 points and four steals, and Division II Elizabeth City State forced 34 turnovers in its 69-57 upset of Norfolk State on Wednesday night.

The Vikings scored 27 points off the Spartans’ season-high turnovers.

Angelo Sharpless added 17 points for ECSU in the teams’ first meeting since Norfolk State moved to Division I in 1997.

The Spartans (4-3) jumped out to a 14-2 lead on Kyle O’Quinn’s three-point play with 14:45 left. But the Vikings took over after that.

Norfolk State went 8:45 without scoring a bucket as ECSU went on a 24-0 run to go up 26-14 on Lawrence Williams’ free throws with 6:03 left in the first half.

The Spartans committed 16 turnovers and shot 30 percent in the first half (6 of 20) to trail 36-24 at intermission.

O’Quinn led Norfolk State with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
