Massachusetts defeats winless Towson 86-56

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — Freddie Riley scored 15 points and Massachusetts hit 13 3-pointers and dished out a season-high 23 assists to rout Towson 86-56 Wednesday night, keeping the Tigers winless.

The Minutemen (6-2) opened up a 28-9 lead with 8:36 left in the first half en route to tying their season high for first-half points with a 44-28 advantage.

Massachusetts shot 43.1 percent from the field for the game (31 of 72), with 28 attempts from beyond the arc. Towson (0-6) shot only 32.8 percent (21 of 64), including just 2 of 15 from long range.

The Minutemen scored 37 points off 26 Tigers turnovers.

Towson did win the battle of the boards 50-43.

Chaz Williams added 12 points, Cady Lalanne 11 and Raphiael Putney 10 for the Minutemen, with 51 points coming off the bench. Jesse Morgan had a career-high nine assists.

Robert Nwankwo led the Tigers with 19 points.
