EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A Springfield man accused of faking cancer has been charged with theft by deception.
Twenty-eight-year-old Charles Embleton appeared in court Wednesday and had his trial set for Feb. 28. His lawyer advised him not to comment on the case.
Police said members of Embleton’s church who raised money for medical costs became suspicious last May after he gained, rather than lost, weight.
The Register-Guard reports (http://is.gd/mFcY5U) police got a court order for his medical records, which failed to confirm a cancer diagnosis.
