PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Frank Gore’s 12-yard run capped a second-half comeback, lifting the San Francisco 49ers past the Philadelphia Eagles 24-23 Sunday.

The 49ers (3-1), leaders of the NFC West, were unable to slow Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who threw for a career-high 416 yards and ran for another 75. They could victimize Philadelphia’s porous defense throughout the second half, however, storming back from a 23-3 deficit.

The Eagles (1-3), last in the NFC East, were damaged by the kicking game, too. David Akers, their longtime kicker who left for San Francisco as a free agent last summer, kicked the decisive extra point. His replacement, Alex Henery, missed from 39 and 33 yards in the fourth quarter.

San Francisco took advantage, with Alex Smith’s TD passes of 30 yards to Joshua Morgan and 9 to Vernon Davis sparking the rally.
