Business name: Bricks & Minifigs.

Owners: David Ortiz and John Masek.

Address: Main store is at 1908 N.W. First Way, No. 101, Battle Ground; corporate stores are in Beaverton and Canby, Ore.

What the business does: Bricks & Minifigs is a specialty toy store that buys, sells, and trades all things Lego. David Ortiz said he carries a full line of new and used sets, mini-figure characters and bulk bricks. Ortiz said kids and adult fans of Lego come from all over the Northwest to see his large selection of new and used Legos. Also, he buys and trades, so customers can trade in used sets for new Legos, or get cash for the bin of Legos they have sitting in the attic.

How has the economy affected your business: Ortiz said his business has thrived both in the troughs and peaks of economic times. Because he offers alternatives to buying new Lego sets, he is able to offer toys across a wide price range.

Greatest challenge: Ortiz said keeping ahead of his company’s growth is his greatest challenge.

What’s ahead: He currently has three stores and is in the process of franchising stores. There is a lot of pressure to continue growth in the used Lego market, Ortiz said.
