NEW YORK (AP) — Flat Out has won the Jockey Club Gold Cup, taking the lead around the far turn and beating favorite Stay Thirsty to cap a Super Saturday of racing at Belmont Park.

The victory likely sends the 5-year-old Flat Out into the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5 as one of the favorites.

Flat Out, ridden by Alex Solis, covered the 114 miles over a muddy track in 2:03.17. Drosselmeyer was second and Stay Thirsty third in the seven-horse field.

In two other races with BC Classic implications, Uncle Mo won the Kelso and Havre de Grace won the Beldame. Both are likely headed to the Classic, too. Flat Out was second to Havre de Grace in the Woodward at Saratoga on Sept. 3.

In earlier races, Giant Ryan won the Vosburgh, Stacelita captured the Flower Bowl and Cape Blanco took the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic.
