Lewis, Morehead St. defeat Valparaiso 38-14

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Zach Lewis threw for 335 yards and four touchdowns, and Desmond Cox rushed for 131 yards Saturday as Morehead State defeated Valparaiso 38-14.

Lewis completed 38 of 55 passes for the Eagles (2-3, 1-1 Pioneer Football League) while throwing touchdowns of 4, 12, 26 and 12 yards to four different receivers. Cox caught a 12-yard TD pass, while Kevin Thomas ran for a 2-yard TD and caught a 26-yard scoring throw during a 21-point second quarter that put Morehead State up 28-7 at halftime.

The Eagles, who came into the game with the top offense in the FCS averaging 550.3 yards per game, piled up 555 against the Crusaders (0-4, 0-1).

Eric Hoffman completed 25 of 51 passes for 277 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for Valparaiso. The Crusaders were 2 for 17 on third-down conversions, turned the ball over three times and were sacked four times.
