WOODBURN, Ore. (AP) — Police in Woodburn, Ore., say a 38-year-old pedestrian struck and killed by an Amtrak train was walking to a nearby church to meet his wife.

Sgt. John Mikkola says Jose Guadalupe Perez-Lopez was a Woodburn painter and father of three young children. The officer says an investigation indicates the Sunday afternoon death was a “tragic accident.”

The southbound train carrying 208 passengers and 14 crew members was unable to stop in time. It was delayed about two hours on a trip from Seattle to Los Angeles.
