Chopper raised out of NYC river after deadly crash

NEW YORK (AP) -- Recovery workers on a boat have raised a helicopter's wreckage from New York City's East River following a deadly crash.

The chopper appeared outwardly intact as it was raised from the water and swung toward the vessel Tuesday evening. A crane gently lowered the helicopter onto the recovery boat.

Five people were on the chopper when it crashed shortly after taking off from a heliport on the riverbank not far from the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan. One passenger died.
