PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police say a 1999 Subaru Legacy ended up abandoned on light rail tracks where it was hit by a MAX train after a motel room burglary in which the vehicle’s owners lost their car keys as well as other items.

No one was in the car when it was hit early Tuesday. TriMet spokeswoman Bekki Witt tells The Oregonian that the operator and four students using the eastbound train for training were unhurt.

Lt. Robert King says the victims woke up at a Travelodge to find several items missing from their room and called police Tuesday morning to report the burglary. Detectives recovered video surveillance from the burglary and were able to identify the suspects coming from and going to a different room at the motel. Police made three arrests Tuesday evening.
