Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington is the Pacific Region winner of the Charles Schwab Foundation’s Money Matters: Make It Count Innovation Award, for creative delivery of financial education.

Working with local bank volunteers, the local clubs created their own Boys & Girls Club Bank, with teen members taking on leadership roles. Teens also used skills learned in the entrepreneurship section of Money Matters to open the Club Bucks Store, where members could spend Club Bucks earned for good behavior.

The award came with a $3,000 grant from the Charles Schwab Foundation, recognizing that the local Boys & Girls Clubs went above and beyond in teaching the basics of personal finance. Just five clubs nationally received the award.
