ST. LOUIS (AP) — Matt Holliday expected to return to the St. Louis Cardinals’ lineup for their must-win Game 4 of the NL division series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Manager Tony La Russa made out two lineup cards prior to Wednesday’s game, one with Holliday in it and one without him. The star outfielder has been out because of an injured right middle finger.
Holliday told reporters after taking batting practice that he felt well enough to play. La Russa said Holliday would bat fifth if he was good to go.
Prior to Game 3 Tuesday, Holliday had a numbing injection for the tendon injury. He got a pinch-hit single in the eighth inning of a 3-2 loss that put the Phillies up 2-1 in the best-of-five series.
