Jets’ Burress sits out practice with elbow issue

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress did not practice because of a swollen elbow, but he and the team expect him to play Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Burress fell on the elbow during New York’s 34-17 loss at Baltimore last Sunday, and it swelled up while he was sleeping Tuesday night. It wasn’t immediately clear which elbow it was, but Burress woke up around 3 a.m. Wednesday because of the sudden swelling and coach Rex Ryan said it needed to be drained.

Burress says “it’s nothing serious,” and he’ll be able to practice Thursday and Friday.

Center Nick Mangold was limited in practice, but says his high right ankle sprain is improving. He hopes to play Sunday after missing the last two games.
