EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The Eugene School District is adding back five teaching positions because of crowded classrooms.

Superintendent Sheldon Berman told school board members Wednesday that dozens of elementary classes have more than 30 students. The largest had 37.

The Register Guard reports (http://bit.ly/q5DIRt) five schools will add classes and two schools will get additional teaching assistants.

In the past year the district has closed four schools and eliminated 126 positions.
