COSMOPOLIS, Wash. (AP) — The Cosmo Specialty Fibers pulp mill in Cosmopolis is shut down Friday while company and city employees repair a leak in a pipe that carries treated liquid to settling ponds.

KBKW reports residents were surprised to see foam gurgling out of the ground Thursday afternoon.

The mill shut down, but spokesman Bob Buchan says it should resume operations Saturday.

The Cosmo mill reopened this year under a new owner after being closed four years. It makes a pulp that is combined with other materials to create a variety of products, including plastics and rayon for clothing.
