ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Tigers slugger Delmon Young opened his trip to the AL championship series with a doctor’s examination.

Detroit manager Jim Leyland said Friday that the evaluation of Young’s strained oblique muscle will determine whether the outfielder can start Game 1 against the Texas Rangers on Saturday night.

Young left Game 5 of the AL division series on Thursday night because of the injury. He’d homered earlier in the game and set a club record with three homers in the series against the Yankees.

If Young can’t go, Leyland said he has several other options. He did not say which way he’s leaning.

Leyland also outlined his pitching rotation for the series: Justin Verlander in Game 1, followed by Rick Porcello, Doug Fister, Max Scherzer and back to Verlander, Porcello and Fister.
