BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Florida coach Will Muschamp has chosen to start Jacoby Brissett at quarterback for the 17th-ranked Gators’ game at No. 1 LSU on Saturday.

The decision on Saturday marks the first time in Florida history that a true freshman has taken his first college snap as the starter.

During the past week, Muschamp said freshman Jeff Driskel would be likely starter because he had the most game experience among active Florida quarterbacks after senior John Brantley had been ruled out because of a right leg injury against Alabama last week.

However, Muschamp also spread practice snaps among Brissett and fellow freshman Tyler Murphy during the week while Driskel tried to overcome an ankle injury of his own.
