GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — In a battle between opposing quarterbacks who each threw three touchdown passes, Dustin Taliaferro got the better of it in Samford’s 26-21 victory at Furman Saturday in Southern Conference action.

The Bulldogs (3-2, 1-2) got their first conference victory on Taliaferro’s arm and the foot of Cameron Yaw, who kicked two field goals.

Taliaferro completed 22 of 35 passes for three touchdowns to separate receivers. Two came in the second quarter, a 6-yarder to Chris Celphus and a 21-yarder to Riley Hawkins, giving Samford a 16-0 halftime lead. When Furman’s Chris Forcier found Tyler Maples for a 66-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, the Paladins (3-2, 2-1) trailed 16-14.

But Yaw’s field goal and Taliaferro’s 8-yard TD pass to Kelsey Pope made it 26-14. Forcier passed for 356 yards and three touchdowns but also threw three interceptions. Samford’s Fabian Truss rushed for 136 yards.
