SPANAWAY, Wash. (AP) — The Pierce County Sheriff’s office says the body of a man who had rocks stuffed into his pockets has been found in Spanaway Lake.

Spokesman Ed Troyer tells KOMO-TV that investigators don’t know whether the rocks were being used by someone else to dispose of the body or if the man was trying to ensure his own suicide with extra weight.

A passerby out for a walk spotted the body bobbing in the water about 10 feet offshore Sunday morning.

Troyer said the man had no shirt and appeared to have been in the water for 24 to 48 hours.

The medical examiner’s office is working to establish the identity and cause of death.
