Salem hit-run driver sentenced to 4 years

SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- A driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash near Salem that injured seven people was sentenced Monday to more than four years in prison.

Thirty-five-year-old Octavio Hernandez Coronado pleaded guilty to assault and other charges arising from the July 3 collision.

He told the Marion County judge through an interpreter that he tried to flee to Mexico because he feared he would get the death penalty. He had two convictions for driving under the influence of intoxicants.

The Statesman Journal reports (http://bit.ly/pThX33 ) he isn't a U.S. citizen and likely will be deported after his release from prison.
