MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority says it recorded more doping violations in the past year than at any time since it was established in 2006.

ASADA said Wednesday that 42 athletes recorded doping violations in the 2010-2011 year from 7090 tests.

ASADA chief executive Aurora Andruska said the high number of positive tests could be attributed to the stimulant methylhexaneamine, which can appear as a dietary supplement and in some energy drinks. Methylhexaneamine was banned by the World Anti-Doping Authority in 2010.

Andruska said athlete exposure to methylhexaneamine could have been higher, but “we issued a major public announcement … to warn Australian athletes to carefully consider their use of supplements.”
