Seattle company makes life miserable for birds

SEATTLE (AP) — A Seattle pest control company knows how to make life miserable for pigeons, starlings and sparrows.

National Bird Control removes nests, electrifies window sills and installs nets and spikes.

When necessary owner David Cheaney resorts to what he calls “mechanical extraction.” That means he shoots birds with a pellet gun.

The Seattle Times reports (http://bit.ly/q0ymon ) Cheaney is aware of what he calls the “cute factor” and public sympathy for animals.

The state Fish and Wildlife Department says as long as you follow local law, it’s legal to shoot pigeons, starlings and sparrows at any time because they are invasive species.
