Hoosiers’ Creek plans to be there for teammates

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Hoosiers guard Maurice Creek is not giving up on his teammates or basketball.

The junior tore the Achilles tendon in his left leg, an injury that typically takes months to heal.

Wednesday marked the first time Creek spoke publicly since having surgery Monday and promised to help his teammates any way he could this season.

Creek says the injury occurred when he slipped and fell while walking down the steps.

He came to Indiana three years ago touted as the foundation of coach Tom Crean’s first recruiting class. But he broke his left kneecap in December of his freshman season and missed the rest of the year. In January, he was diagnossed stress fracture in his right kneecap and missed the rest of his sophomore season.
