TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- A Tacoma police spokesman says the man wounded by an officer Wednesday night is expected to survive.
Spokesman Mark Fulghum says the officer who fired is on paid leave for an investigation.
The officer was grazed by the man's car but not injured.
The incident began when police tried to pull the car over because its lights were off. The driver refused to stop. Police used his license number to find his address, and the officer was waiting at an apartment complex when he drove in.
Police say he drove at the officer and refused to stop. After the driver was wounded he hit a trash bin, and the car caught fire.
Officers pulled out the driver. Medics took him to Tacoma General Hospital.
