LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — The World Anti-Doping Agency has dropped another case involving Mexican meat contaminated with clenbuterol, clearing Danish cyclist Philip Nielsen.
WADA has withdrawn an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, ending its challenge to Nielsen’s acquittal by a sports tribunal in Denmark.
Nielsen tested positive at the 2010 Tour of Mexico and was provisionally suspended by the International Cycling Union.
The decision came a day after WADA dropped a case against five Mexico soccer players, accepting evidence provided by their government and FIFA that Mexico had problems with farmers illegally feeding steroids to livestock.
WADA says “it is clear that Mexico has an ongoing problem with contaminated meat.”
