SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Chief Justice Paul de Muniz says he will not run for re-election as the state’s top judge.
De Muniz made the announcement in a news release on Thursday. He says he will serve through the end of his term in January 2013.
In a statement, De Muniz says he has been “profoundly honored to serve Oregonians as an appellate judge.”
The 64-year-old justice was first elected to the Oregon Supreme Court in 2000 and was re-elected to a second six-year term in 2006. He was chosen by his colleagues on the seven-member court to serve as the chief justice, the administrative chief of the state court system. He was previously a state appeals court judge and a partner in a Salem law practice.
