Glider crash at Cle Elum killed Tukwila pilot

CLE ELUM, Wash. (AP) -- The Kittitas County sheriff's office has identified the glider pilot killed in a crash at Cle Elum as 53-year-old William Weller of Tukwila.

He was the only person aboard the glider that crashed Thursday as it was being towed down a runway by a vehicle at Cle Elum Municipal Airport.

The sheriff's office says a helicopter was filming the glider from above for a commercial. It was just starting to take off when it crashed.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
