DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A not guilty plea has been entered for a man charged with murdering a Central State University football player outside a southwest Ohio nightclub.

Thirty-year-old Jason Shern is charged with fatally shooting 21-year-old Kordero Hunter in Dayton on Sept. 23. A judge entered a not guilty plea Thursday for Shern on the murder charge and on felonious assault and weapons charges. Shern stood mute as the pleas were entered.

Shern’s attorney didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment.

The Montgomery County prosecutor’s office says Shern shot Hunter outside the nightspot after a fight inside involving bar patrons. Authorities say Shern also fired at the bar, wounding two people.

Shern is in jail on $1 million bond.

Hunter of South Holland, Ill., was a sophomore defensive back at the university in Wilberforce.
