CATANIA, Sicily (AP) — The French men’s fencing team won a sixth straight world title Saturday, beating Hungary and underlining its status as one of the best in the sport’s history.

The 45-37 victory in epee is also the team’s eighth major title, taking into account the two Olympic gold medals. The teams were tied 35-35 when Gauthier Grumier got the best of Babor Boczko in the final duel.

In the women’s team saber event, Russia successfully defended its title, beating Ukraine 45-43 in a repeat of the 2010 final. In a semifinal, Russia defeated the United States 45-33.

Russia has picked up three of the four sabre titles in Catania.
