North Carolina A&T beats Delaware State 42-24

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Mike Mayhew carried 24 times for 128 yards and three touchdowns as North Carolina A&T defeated Delaware State 42-24 on Saturday.

Mayhew scored on runs of 1 and 19 yards in the first quarter and 11 yards in the second as the Aggies (4-2, 3-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) took a 28-0 lead.

Lewis Kindle threw touchdown passes of 18, 27 and 9 yards to Larry Raper, the last two in the second half, to make it 42-17 after the Hornets (2-5, 0-3) had gotten within 11 points. Raper finished with 109 yards on five catches.

Nick Elko completed 30 of 50 passes for 319 yards for Delaware State, including a 42-yarder to Travis Tarpley that made it 28-17 with 5:57 left in the third quarter.

The victory was the third in a row for North Carolina A&T, while Delaware State lost its fifth straight.
