Ultimate Eagle scores big upset at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Ultimate Eagle beat Venomous by a half-length Saturday in the $150,000 Oak Tree Derby at 34-1 odds in his stakes debut at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Martin Pedroza, Ultimate Eagle ran 1 1-8 miles on the turf in 1:47.03 and paid $70.40, $23.60 and $12.20. Britain-bred Venomous returned $6.20 and $5, and Cozy Kitten paid $9.20.

It was Ultimate Eagle’s third consecutive victory.
