MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — Family members of American basketball player Chauncey Hardy, who was fatally beaten in a Romanian bar, say he will be buried in his Connecticut hometown this week.
Hardy’s body was returned to the U.S. last Friday, and his wake and funeral are scheduled on Wednesday morning.
Hardy died Oct. 9 of massive head injuries after he was punched in a bar in the southern Romanian city of Giurgiu, where he played for a Romanian basketball club.
The New Haven Register reports (http://bit.ly/rqyQ4W ) Hardy’s family and friends held a rally in his memory Saturday, calling for more answers about the incident and whether he received inadequate medical care.
Hardy played basketball at Xavier High School in Middletown and later at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.
