Letter: Congresswoman has listened

I am writing to refute Larry Dorr’s Oct. 5 letter, “Listening? To which constituents?” that grossly misrepresents Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler’s, R-Camas, record.

The letter claims she voted to “gut Social Security.” When? She has promised time and again to protect Social Security, and the budget she supported earlier this year preserved the program exactly as it is now.

It claims she voted to “gut” Medicare.” This head-in-the-sand view ignores Medicare’s impending doom; Medicare officials themselves warn the program will be bankrupt in 10 years if no action is taken. Herrera Beutler supported one potential option to save it from extinction.

What I’ve seen from Congresswoman Herrera Beutler are actions that back up the pledges that got her elected: control spending and focus on jobs. She’s done a good job of listening to what this region wants and taking our voice back to Washington, D.C.
