Man killed by Salem police identified



SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The man killed by Salem police early Monday has been identified as 22-year-old Dru Garret Larson.

The Marion County district attorney’s office says the autopsy by the state medical examiner showed he died of police gunshot wounds.

The Statesman Journal reports ( ) his mother and sister went to the intersection Tuesday night where police said they fired because the driver of a stolen car put them in imminent danger. Police have not released details. Witnesses said the driver put the car in reverse toward officers.

The family says Larson grew up in Tillamook and graduated from Tillamook High School in 2007. They say he had struggled with methamphetamine addiction but had been clean for three weeks.

He had about 10 misdemeanor convictions in Marion, Polk and Tillamook counties.
