BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have denied a television report that pitchers Jon Lester, Josh Beckett and John Lackey drank beer in the dugout during games.

WHDH-TV posted the report on its website, citing two unidentified Red Sox employees.

Lester, Beckett and Lackey dismissed the allegation in a statement issued by the team on Tuesday night. Lester calls it “completely false” and former manager Terry Francona says he has never seen anyone drink beer in the dugout during his 32 years in professional baseball.

The Red Sox missed the playoffs following a record collapse, going 7-20 in September and finishing at 90-72.
