BURLINGTON, Wash. (AP) -- The Burlington Police Department is putting hard ceilings in its interview rooms after a suspect who escaped through a ceiling panel fell into the police chief's office.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports ( http://bit.ly/pj2Agr ) a 23-year-old woman who was being questioned Oct. 7 in a robbery case was left alone while officers prepared paperwork to move her to the county jail in Mount Vernon.
When officers returned they found a ceiling tile had been removed. Moments later she fell from an attic crawl space, through the ceiling and into the office of Police Chief Bill Van Wieringen.
The Burlington City Council approved more than $4,000 in emergency spending last week for the ceiling replacement.
