Test your palate Sunday at heirloom apple event

Venorsborg — Friendly Haven Farms and the Venorsborg Community Club are hosting an heirloom apple tasting with more than 200 varieties of apples. Other activities include a cider pressing demonstration, apple pie making, a chance to order apple trees for spring planting, a raffle for a handmade quilt and apple identification.

The Home Orchard Society is trying to identify heirloom apple trees in Clark County. To have your homegrown apples identified, bring five apples — unwashed and unpolished, with the stems on, in a paper bag, and experts from the Orchard Society will try to identify them. Please write your name and phone number, with the location of the apple tree, on the bag.

Proceeds from the event will help restore the schoolhouse and Friendly Haven Farms historic barn. Admission is $5 for visitors over 16 and free for children.

The tasting will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Venersborg Schoolhouse, 24309 N.E. 209th St., Battle Ground. For more information, contact Jacqueline Freeman, 360-687-8384, or visit http://friendlyhaven.com/apples.html.
