C-Tran committee to clarify BRT plans

A C-Tran advisory committee on Tuesday is expected to narrow its vision for a proposed bus rapid transit line along Vancouver’s Fourth Plain corridor.

The project’s Corridor Advisory Committee will recommend some BRT concepts to move forward for technical analysis.

BRT systems use larger vehicles, dedicated bus lanes, elevated boarding platforms or specialized traffic signals to improve traffic flow and capacity. A BRT line on Fourth Plain might not use all those options but some combination of them.

C-Tran first floated the idea early this year; the proposal has received a mixed response from businesses and residents. Officials hope to settle on a plan next year, with construction as soon as 2013 and 2014.

The committee will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday in C-Tran’s administrative headquarters, 2425 N.E. 65th Ave. in Vancouver.
