VANCOUVER — The chess clubs of Felida Elementary, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, and Skyview High School are hosting the second annual Fall Kickoff Chess Tournament on Nov. 5. It will be open to all players, regardless of ability, from all school districts. There are separate sections for elementary and secondary students, plus a parents’ section. Last year’s tournament attracted 100 participants.
There is a special category for young students new to chess. More-experienced elementary players will have a qualifying tournament where they can advance to the state championships later in the year. Middle- and high-schoolers’ results will be recorded with state and national chess organizations.
The registration form is available at http://vansd.org under “events,” and must be postmarked by Oct. 28. The cost is $15 per player.
Registered students will check in at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 5 at Felida Elementary, 2700 N.W. 119th St.
