Gardeners should consider sheltering their sensitive plants tonight.
The National Weather Service is warning that temperatures in the region could dip into the 30s over the next few nights as sunshine rules during the daytime.
A widespread freeze is not expected. However, some sheltered and higher elevations could get the first frost of the season.
Here’s the text of the Weather Service’s statement:
338 AM PDT MON OCT 24 2011
…FROSTY CONDITIONS POSSIBLE TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING…
COOLER AND DRIER AIR WILL SETTLE IN ACROSS THE REGION TODAY.
HIGH PRESSURE WILL STRENGTHEN TODAY AND REMAIN OVER THE AREA THROUGH
WEDNESDAY. SKIES WILL LIKELY CLEAR TONIGHT AS WEAK OFFSHORE WINDS
DEVELOP…ALLOWING OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES TO LOWER INTO THE 30S
FOR MANY VALLEY AND COASTAL LOCATIONS TONIGHT AND TUESDAY NIGHT.
WHILE WIDESPREAD FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE NOT EXPECTED…
TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER TO MID 30S CAN GENERATE FROST ON A CLEAR
NIGHT…AND DAMAGE SENSITIVE OUTDOOR PLANTS. THIS COULD BE THE FIRST
FROST CONDITIONS FOR THE FALL. THOSE WITH SENSITIVE VEGETATION MAY
WANT TO TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT THEIR PLANTS.
