Shumway — Soroptimist International of Southwest Washington presented the YWCA SafeChoice Shelter with a $500 donation at the “Purple Light Bingo” event Oct. 19.

The event was designed to bring more awareness and funding to the domestic violence shelter.

“With the recent state cuts to domestic violence services, Soroptimist understands the importance to collaborating and supporting the YWCA programs and services,” said Michelle Bart, president of Soroptimist International of Southwest Washington.

The funds raised will be matched by a private donor.

“In economic times like these, women (and men) need to pull together to reassure victims of domestic violence we won’t give up and the services will be here when they need them,” said Bart.
