Occupy Vancouver’s rally at noon Saturday at downtown’s Esther Short Park will include a food drive, organizers announced Wednesday.

“Part of what we’ve been talking about in our group is, as the saying goes, be the change you want to see in the world,” said organizer Stephanie Rotondo of Vancouver. “This is one of the ways we felt we could give back to our community.”

Packaged, nonperishable foods and toiletries will be accepted from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the park, 301 W. Eighth St.

The food will be donated to the Clark County Food Bank, said organizer Tom Scharf of Vancouver.

Occupy Vancouver organizers also have changed their weekly 6 p.m. Tuesday meeting location from the park bandstand to the Klickitat Room at Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St.

Other upcoming rallies are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at Vancouver City Hall, 415 W. Sixth St., to protest the patronization of Bank of America by the City of Vancouver, Clark County and Port of Vancouver, and from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 5 at Esther Short Park.

The Nov. 5 rally is in conjunction with Bank Transfer Day, when Americans are encouraged to withdraw their money from large corporate banks and start accounts at local banks and credit unions. More information is available at http://www.facebook.com/Nov.Fifth
