ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — A person with knowledge of the hire says the Los Angeles Angels have chosen Diamondbacks executive Jerry Dipoto to be their new general manager.

The person spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Friday because the Angels haven’t formally announced the hiring.

Dipoto spent the past six seasons in Arizona’s front office, serving as interim GM in 2010. He also was in the Red Sox front office during their run to the 2004 World Series title.

Angels GM Tony Reagins quit two days after Los Angeles missed the playoffs for the second straight season with one of the majors’ highest payrolls, finishing 10 games behind Texas in the AL West.

The club will hold a news conference about its GM position Saturday.

Fox Sports first reported Dipoto’s hiring.
