DePaul again tries to defy expectations

CHICAGO (AP) — DePaul finds itself in a familiar spot heading into its second season under coach Oliver Purnell.

Expectations are low again for a program with four straight losing seasons and just two conference wins over the past three years.

The Blue Demons have a long way to go after finishing 7-23 and 1-17 in the Big East. They’re counting on young players like Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young to build on promising freshman seasons and lift a storied, but struggling, program.

The regular season begins at home Nov. 11 against Texas-Pan American.
