NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vanderbilt senior center Festus Ezeli will miss between six and eight weeks with the seventh-ranked Commodores after spraining ligaments in his right knee in practice.

The Commodores announced the injury Friday afternoon.

Ezeli was hurt Tuesday in practice, but the Commodores say he will not need surgery to repair the MCL and PCL ligaments in his knee. The Commodores already were set to play the first six games without Ezeli due to an NCAA suspension for accepting a free meal and hotel room from an alumnus this summer.

That suspension ends after Vanderbilt plays Monmouth on Nov. 25, so Ezeli will be able to return if he heals up more quickly than estimated.
